I recently spent a couple of weeks in Canmore for a little holiday and it was super fun.
We skied and skated and walked and ate really well.
Staying in a condo or house has its advantages in my opinion, you can cook for yourself it you want to. Eating out all the time is not enjoyable to me, I really like a mix of home cooking and going out for special meals.
My first favorite thing is actually the special meals part. We had three favorite places.
Le Fournil bakery is probably pretty well known but just – wow. The coffee and pastries were unbelievable and the baguette is amazing but you must get there really early to get one. We joked that even the young people behind the counter looked fresh baked.
We had a very tasty meal when my kids drove up from Calgary at Bridgette Bar. Super Cosy.
We had a tasting menu meal at a place called Ankor (my friends recommended a place called Sauvage which was closed the night we wanted to go).
The six (or seven?) courses were delicious and very special. Sure it cost almost as much as my first car but it was so worth it! haha Seriously – it was impressive.
My second favorite thing was the place we rented both skis and skates. There are lots of places you can rent equipment but this place called Gear Up was really reasonable and had good equipment.
My third favorite thing was skiing – I had a blast. We went to Sunshine and while it was expensive (everywhere is!) it was a really good experience. I started on the bunny hill and magic carpet and then had a lesson on a subsequent day. All the young Australian kids working there are very friendly!
Canmore is so close and while it is growing at a rapid rate, we are so lucky to have it in our back yard here in Calgary.
Any suggestions I have missed? leave them in the comments below 🙂
Le Fournil is soooo good, isn’t it?! When I worked at the hospital it was dangerously close! The buerre et jambon baguette is so simple but soooo delicious. And the tarte au citron….😋
Looking forward to skiing Sunshine later this week!
OMG – the sandwiches! yes took that to the ski hill – yum!!
