There are few things I love more than feeling good in my skin.

I have dry skin which is prone to redness and sometimes irritation from eczema or Tretinoin use.

These following three products each have ingredients proven to help soothe, soften and protect the skin and you can get them all at the drugstore.

1. Eucerin Complete Repair body lotion.

The main ingredient in this one is urea – a natural compound found in your skin’s natural moisturizing factors and is also secreted in your urine. Don’t worry – the urea found in skin care is made synthetically in the lab. 🙂

Urea is called a keratolytic – which means it can break down and soften the keratin in dead skin cells and helps them shed faster.

If you have rough body skin which happens with age, you want to have a little exfoliation to keep that new skin coming through. At 5% urea, the lotion is moisturizing but at 10 -25% it is exfoliating so look for the 10% kind if you want that.

This lotion has no fragrance and it is not the cheapest lotion in the drug store but it is so worth it.

2. Cera-Ve Healing Ointment.

The main ingredient in this one is petrolatum. This is an ingredient which has been misunderstood and demonized by the ‘clean’ beauty people. It is made with various mineral oils and waxes and was popularized under the brand name ‘Vaseline’. It is very safe and is great for healing minor scrapes etc. It is also enjoying a Tic Tok moment as an under eye cream and for something called ‘slugging’ (putting a layer on your face before bed!)

I use this ointment for dry patches, cuticles, dry nostrils and sometimes to remove makeup.

You can get this online but I have also found it in Canadian drug stores in the baby section. The formulation is different than straight up petroleum jelly, it contains CeraVe’s famous ceramides which are part of a healthy skin barrier.

3. Cicaplast Baume B5. (La Roche-Posay)

This is my favorite face moisturizer and it contains Panthenol as a key ingredient. This stuff is anti-inflammatory, protective, improves hydration and skin smoothness as well as having wound healing properties. It is pretty emollient, so a little goes a long way and it can leave a slight white cast so I use it at night and I wake up with the best feeling skin. The cicaplast lip balm is also the best thing for overnight on the lips! Both are much better in my opinion than the expensive night creams and ‘lip masks’ from Sephora.
