This month I am going to keep it simple, inexpensive and all about my current favorites in skincare.
The first is a skin ointment I discovered in the baby section of Shoppers Drug Mart and I’m kinda obessed with it. This healing ointment is sold in the US by the tub but in Canada, we have the baby edition by the tube. This means it is fragrance free and marketed as a diaper cream, but don’t let that turn you off! It is very similar to vaseline, but again, don’t let that turn you off! haha. It is something I use on my lips, cuticles, elbows, heck I sometimes smear it all over my face before bed. It gets dry in Calgary!
It contains petrolatum (which is not the same as petroleum and is one of the safest things you can use on your skin) as well as ceramides to repair the skin barrier.
My second favorite is a sunscreen, because maybe nothing is more important to the skin than protecting it from UV rays. This Biore sunscreen is light and it completely disappears once you apply it. It contains a sunscreen called Tinsorb which is only available in Europe and Asia and is a very effective and photo stable UVA blocker. It is a Japanese product and they don’t play when it comes to sunscreens. It is never too late to be diligent about protecting your skin from the sun!
Finally, I love this old school moisturizer from Weleda called Skin Food. I got the face cream but I love it so much, I think I will get the body butter because – it is a small pleasure and I love the scent.
Hope there are some small pleasures that are getting you through right now.
Let me know in the comments!
Hi Kathy – thanks for your skincare recommendations! And, as always, your great insights and guidance.
I’ve discovered an incredible body butter, produced right here in Calgary. It’s made by Aleppo Savon, and it’s Body Butter with Ginger and Citrus. All natural.
Here’s the link to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/alepposavon/
Their hand cream is also great!
oooh – thanks Chris! I’m going to buy from them instead!- I love to buy local and this looks amazing. Thanks for the tip! xo
Your words of inspiration were absolutely what I needed to read this morning as I continue to struggle (more than 2 years now) with a knee injury. I felt like someone was relating to my feeling of discouragement. I wanted you to know that the effort you put into writing isn’t for naught. So, Thank you Kathy! We need to continue starting each day afresh and count our blessings, so numerous really, when we pause to think about them. Take good care!
(I used to take your yoga classes at Southland Leisure Centre and always read your posts with delight.)
With warm regards,
Ahhh thanks Cindy! I really appreciate the feedback. I so hope your knee feels better soon! xo
Thanks for your inspirational message! It is what I needed today, and you express yourself so well. I have made a note of your skin care suggestions and will definitely look up the sunscreen and Skin Food face cream. The Aleppo Savon is a good tip – thanks!
I will follow up on the yoga practice you included in your message. Yes, I am one of those who have to do every lesson, or will not do any!
