Numero Uno-

The Calgary International Film Festival is happening until October 4  and most of the films can be viewed online from the comfort of your home!  There are also in-person screenings at the Eau Claire theaters.

I particularly wanted to see “John Ware Reclaimed”. “Jimmy Carter: Rock and Roll President” also looks pretty interesting. My friend Carol (who has excellent taste) told me she enjoyed “Events Transpiring”, “Eat Wheaties”, “Jasmine Road”, “Death of a Ladies Man” and “Shiva Baby” so I will be checking those out for sure. Here is a CBC article about the festival.

The Equinox Vigil , an event I love, is a creative, respectful evening to honour the deceased and celebrate the natural cycle of Life and Death itself.

The event happened online last weekend and it was a great success. They recorded the whole thing and you can see it here. (one hour)

It was such a moving collection of music, story and participatory ritual.   If you like, you can support it here

Number 3-

With the passing of feminist icon Ruth Bader Ginsberg, here are two movies about her.

One is a feature film I saw in theaters a couple of years ago called “On the Basis of Sex”.

Directed by a woman, I thought it was really good. You can find the trailer on youtube  here.

The other is a documentary called “The Notorious RBG”, also available here on youtube to buy or rent.
