Welcome to day two of your balance challenge. Thanks for being here.

Today you will need either a yoga mat, a tie or belt or a wooden 2×4.

We start today’s practice with a little vision training and learning to move the head and eyes independently of each other. We ‘saw’ how important vision is to balance yesterday when we closed our eyes in tree pose! These vison drills will help your eyes see obstacles more clearly as well as help with depth perception and focus. Have you ever stepped off a curb without seeing the step down? Fidel Castro took a famous fall like this once.

We move on to a one leg flow which again tests balance in a dynamic way.

Finally, we walk the line!

Did you know tight rope walkers are called funambulists? It is a word derived from the Latin ‘funis’ for rope and ‘ambulare’ for walking. Many of the earliest and most famous funambulists retained their acts (and their extreme equilibrium) well into old age.

A walk the line and turn test is sometimes used at check stops to see if a person has been drinking, but it considered not reliable if the person is over 60 since many people lose the ability to do it as they age.

But not us! Try it and see how it goes.

The stakes are pretty low if you are not actually on a tight rope. 🙂

I keep a 2×4 in my living room to practice regularly (geek alert!) but I hope to one day move onto a slack line!

Thanks for participating and hope to see you tomorrow!
