In this time of isolating and quarantine, things seem to be changing so rapidly.

In addition to the physical, mental and emotional consequences of this situation, there are very real economic consequences for many businesses. Especially small business.

I am making an extra effort to shop local now.

Here are a couple of local businesses I have ordered from recently and am very happy with!

Empire Provisions

This is a little restaurant and takeout just down the street from me. I just ordered Mother’s Day brunch from them and I am so excited. They have a contactless pick up on the day and we can just go get it. Everything looks amazing – I am thinking about ordering the meat box next!

Sweat Society

This is a “Calgary based company specializing in technical activewear for both women & men that is ethically sourced, and produced.”

I am trying to buy less and buy better when it comes to clothing but it can be tough when it comes to athletic wear. Lululemon is not the worst company when it comes to ethics and sustainability, but it is the opposite of local or small business.

I bought the Trail Tank and it was delivered to my door within two days. I love it!  It is made in Vancouver with fabric made in Toronto. So not super local, but 100 % Canadian. I bought the medium and it is form fitting – just for reference.

Local fitness and yoga studios.

This last one seems self serving but I am gonna say it anyway.  Support your local yoga teacher, pilates teacher, fitness trainer etc.

I have heard people say – there is so much free stuff online – why would I pay for it?

When it comes to free videos, you often get what you pay for 🙂 but beyond that, having your favorite instructor talk you through your practice can really reassuring. You know the cues, you trust they know what they are talking about, and you are familiar with what they teach. And hopefully they will be there when you want to go back to your in-person class with them.

I am not the only one offering zoom classes, but if you want to try a class with me, email me and i can hook you up!
