I have always loved shoes. I know I’m not alone in this; remember when the corrupt Imelda Marcos was famous for her number of shoes?

But think about the cultural expectations around shoes for a minute. When Michelle Obama met the Queen she famously put her arm around her and this moment of bonding came, Michelle said, when she realized  “We were just “two tired ladies oppressed by our shoes”. 🙂

It was a funny joke – I love Ms. Obama – but if they can’t escape the expectations of high heels, who can?

There is so much to say on this topic, about why shoes are so important to foot health but I want to keep this short.  Let’s just say I won’t be recommending anything close to heels. When if comes to women over 50 and their footwear – we need some alternatives!

I fully support a woman’s right to choose though and that includes wearing heels if you want to 🙂 I still will occasionally dig out the heels on occasion but fewer and farther between!

Of the three shoes I like this month – two of them I own and the last one(s) – I covet.

The first is from Joe Fresh and there may still be a few out there in stores. This sneaker is super comfy and I think super cute too. It has a wide toe box and what feels like a zero drop heel. It also passes the roll up test.

This means the sole of the shoe will move to accommodate all those bones and joints as you walk. It won’t weaken the foot by immobilizing it. As with all minimal shoes, you will need some time to get used to this especially if you are not barefoot a lot. Joe Fresh didn’t mean to make a minimal shoe I don’t think, but this sneaker is pretty close!

The second one is a moccasin. I bought a pair at a second hand shop and I have been wearing them so much ever since! The ones I have are discontinued, but these ones from the same brand are gorgeous I think. Even better, go for this Canadian brand I love. Their products are so well made! I have a pair of winter boots from them.

The third shoe I’m considering is this athletic shoe. They have a 100 day trial and are made partially with recycled materials. Ok – I’m gonna fit one more in – I grew up watching Imelda remember? This one in the gold color is a more dressy summer sandal I love – I think it would look amazing with a dress.

As always, I don’t make any commissions with these links. I wish 🙂 🙂 🙂

let me know if there are comfy shoes you love !

Happy walking this summer!
