Do you listen to Podcasts?
Podcasts are on-demand ‘radio’ shows that you can either download to listen to anytime, or you can stream with WiFi. They are usually free, although subscribing and reviewing are appreciated by the producers. They can be in the form of stories, interviews or monologues. There are literally thousands of different podcasts on virtually every subject you can imagine. A podcast can be listened to on your smart phone or tablet or on your computer.
For example, if you have an iPhone, you probably have this app on your phone that will allow you to search for, subscribe to and download podcasts. Below is what the app looks like on an iphone.
You can also use Stitcher and Sound Cloud to get podcasts.
I love to listen to podcasts when I’m out walking. There are popular podcasts about true crime stories, healthy living, making money or just about anything else you can think of. Some are focused on information or humor, others on educating or entertaining.
I have lots of favorite podcasts and I find new ones all the time but since this blog post is called ‘three things’ I’ll just choose three to tell you about. CBC radio also has a show called ‘Podcast Playlist’ that features different podcasts every week and its a good place to discover new ones.
The first one I have to mention is “Katy Says” with Katy Bowman. Katy is a natural movement specialist, biomechanist and author. Her books include “Move your DNA” and “Movement Matters”. Katy talks about natural movement and all things related. She is super smart and funny too. It is great for anyone who is interested in moving and living well. I am including a link to an episode – this one is about floor sitting. Listen here.
The second one I recommend is “On Being” with Krista Tippett. The show “examines the animating questions at the center of human life: What does it mean to be human, and how do we want to live?” The episode I have chosen is one with the poet Mary Oliver. Listen here.
The third one is “The Yoga Healer” Podcast. This one is with Cate Stillman who is a an Ayurvedic practioner and a yoga teacher. This episode is with a great yoga teacher I just love whose name is Sarahjoy Marsh. Sarah is an activist of the best kind. In this episode she talks about the teacher training program she runs – in a prison. She trains yoga teachers in the system to teach yoga to their fellow inmates. Sarah also talks about the brain and the nervous system and how healing can take place. Listen here.

Thanks Kathy, I too love podcasts, especially while I’m driving. They let me learn while I’m just sitting there anyways! One that I’m listening to right now is Elizabeth Gilberts inspirational Podcast called “Magic Lessons” where she talks with everyday people who, although afraid, want to take the next step to living a creative life.
I also obsessively listen to one called “ReWild Yourself” by Daniel Vitalis which is about freeing ourselves from human domestication. Even though to most I look like a mild mannered, suburban, hockey mom, I guess there is a part of me that dreams of freeing the chains:)
Thanks Pam! I am going to have a listen to that Elizabeth Gilberts one – I love her! And I listen to ReWild yourself too! 🙂
Love this! Thanks beautiful lady!
